Greetings Everyone,

Over the past few weeks I've heard a lot of complaints and questions regarding which upgrade to order and when. So I thought I might be able to give you a little background and suggestions for this matter. First lets break out the cost and time involved with each upgrade.

Recommended Upgrade Path

This path is recommended to allow the fastest response time across the map possible. While building fortifications is great for long term defense, the waypoint is essential to allowing troops to prevent the siege from ever happening. The most common mistake (Even I fell for it originally) is to upgrade Walls, Doors, Fortify Keep. Each of these takes longer than 40 minutes to complete. In the same time it takes to complete the first 2 you could have a waypoint in the keep allowing for fast troop movement. In addition the Structural Upgrades cosume a lot of supply and often times the lack of supply will prevent any upgrades from completing when these are queued.

Optimal Progression Path:

  1. Hire a Second Worker - Essential to every upgrade. Cuts the time in half. - 5 Min.
  2. Build Cannons - 11 Min
  3. Build Mortars - 21 Min
  4. Build Waypoint - 42 Min (74 Min Total)
  5. Reinforce Walls
  6. Hire Additional Guards
  7. Reinforce Doors
  8. Raise Guard Level
  9. Fortify Keep

Additional things to note.

  • Personnel Upgrades and Additions do not require a Worker to complete. They are strictly time based and require Full Supply in storage at the time of purchase. If it costs 400 you will need 400.
  • Structural Upgrades and Additions do not require the full ammount at the time of purchase. The Resource amount is the amount it will require for completion.
  • Supply: Each upgrade that is added will grow the pool of Supply that can be kept in the Keep.
  • Queing: You can queue 1 Personnel Upgrade and 1 Structural Upgrade at a time.

Now as an addendum. If your on a map that is under constant fire it may be best to upgrade walls and doors first. Getting waypoint up just allows for more mobility for the raid force on field.

I disagree with the build order presented here. The build order that we typically use is the following:

1. Walls
2. Doors
3. Cannons
4. Mortars
5. Waypoint
6. Fortify

The second worker should be queued when you have excess supply, but preferably sometime before the waypoint. Usually supply is the limiting factor and not the build time unless you're very diligent about escorting yaks.

The reason for bulding doors/walls first is that you can build siege weapons inside the keep with player run supply, which basically serves the same purpose as the cannons and mortars but can be placed in harder to reach locations. If you upgrade the walls and doors first, then a few players on well placed siege weapons can buy a good amount of time for reinforcements to arrive.
