For this guide, I will hit on AoE combo fields and Blast Finishers. Look below for a table of all combo fields and the finishers that can be used to cause additional effects in combination.

If you look at the above table, you will see specific professions have skills that do specific combo fields. As you can see, combo fields in conjunction with a blast finisher all cause AoE based effects. In WvW, these AoE effects are VITAL. Let me give you some examples where certain AoE buffs or even AoE debuffs can be beneficial to the fight:
- Right before engaging a zerg, the Commander has everyone stack on his tag. Fire Fields are all placed down and a Blast Finisher is used to give everyone AoE Might, just seconds before engaging the enemy. Multiple fields and multiple blast finishers would mean multiple sets of 3 stacks of Might. This will allow for EVERY friendly in the area to get Might (not just 5 people like some skills give), and for a very long time.
- During a battle with a group, the Commander may have everyone stack on his tag and ask for Water Fields + Blast Finishers. This will give AoE healing to everyone and assist in the survival of the group. Again, combos + blast finishers do not hit only 5 players like some skills do.
- If your group draws the enemy group into a choke point, such as a bridge, using Dark Fields + Blast Finishers. This will cause AoE Blind to the enemy, which is a very deadly condition to apply for defense from frontliners.
- If your group draws the enemy group into a choke point, such as a bridge, using Poison Fields + Blast Finishers. This will cause AoE Weakness to the enemy, which is a very deadly condition to apply.
The things to take away from this post are simple:
- Go through all your different weapons and weapons skills and identify which ones you have that cause Combo Fields and Blast Finishers
- Acquire different weapons that can be more useful for these types of effects, such as a staff for an Elementalist
- Note your recharges on your Combo Field skills and Blast Finishers, because sometimes it is wiser to bring a 2nd blast finisher so that you can activate more than one combo field.
- Not all professions have all effects, so identify what strengths your profession has and build upon that.
- Talk strategy with the Commanders you are friends with and identify what needs they find the most useful when lead. Me personally, I am a fan of AoE Might and AoE Healing.
