 I've checked them both out.

Buyer beware on the sword. The "slashing chain" animation only works on specific attacks (Mesmer #2, Guardian #3, Ranger Auto-Attack, and Thief's Pistol Whip, doesn't really do anything on any Warrior attacks). Hopefully it will have a good animation for the Ele Tempest Specialization. I got one because...I roll like that.

Mad Scientist outfit looks like it is specifically made for an engineer to wear. Kinda cool, in that the vials have a bit of a pulsating glow to them. The outfit doesn't clip on a Charr's tail, so that's a bonus. Its a bit too bulky-looking for my tastes (although it looks great on my Charr Engi). I'm going to pass on this one.
