WHAT IS SUPPLY?
Supply is the fuel of WvW. You need it to upgrade your camps, towers, and keeps, you need it to build siege weapons, and you need it to repair gates and walls. Supply is extremely vital, and enemy players will go out of their way to make sure that your tower or keep doesn’t get any.

In order for you to get supply, you have to capture supply camps. Once you have a supply camp, a Pack Dolyak will be sent on his way, delivering supply to each location on his route, as seen from the image of the Bordlands in the pic below.

supplymap.jpg

ATTACKING THE DOLYAK
This is where the supply chain is at it’s weakest. The Dolyak can easily be taken out by a small group of players, allowing small groups to have play a large part in the game. Every world that wants to succeed should make sure that they keep their supply safe. Maps are complex enough that invaders can sneak in and kill the Dolyak, without the enemy often realizing it.

DEFENDING THE DOLYAK
Some groups, however escort the Dolyak around the map. You can also purchase a guard upgrade with supply and a little bit of gold, which is highly recommend. If a group is attacking though, strike raid parties of 2-4 should be sent out to disrupt their supply chain.

USES OF SUPPLY
Players can only hold 10 supply each, and it is used to build siege weapons, or repair gates and walls. It is vital to ALWAYS be carrying supply. Before you go into any fight in WvW, make sure that you have supply with you. Until enough supply is given, the blueprints that were laid down don’t actually get built. Here is a list of how much supply is needed for each weapon,

  • Arrow Cart = 30 supply - Great for large groups of players
  • Ballista = 20 supply - Great for taking out siege weapons/gates
  • Catapult = 50 supply - Great for taking out gates and walls at a range
  • Flame Ram = 40 supply - Great for taking gates and walls up close
  • Trebuchet = 100 supply - Very long range weapon great against everything
  • Siege Golem = 100 supply - Very great for taking out gates and walls

It is important to understand why each player needs to carry supply at all times You put your attacking force in danger. That trebuchet is of no help to anyone without enough supply to build it. An invasion force is easier to crush when they don’t have siege weapons to keep them on the defensive. Keep your supply flowing!

One thing I've noticed, is that if a dolyak comes to a tower first, he pops back out fairly quickly if a friendly keep is nearby. The dolyak  will  then continue on to that closest friendly keep.

Very nice guides!

Thanks and Good hunting

This is a very easy mistake to make just starting out,so here's a quick general supply rule of thumb for WvW newcomers. In most situations, do NOT take supply from friendly towers and keeps. This supply is used to upgrade the structure and is stockpiled for use in repairs and the construction of siege engines during an enemy attack. Try to grab your supplies from the various supply camps, if at all possible.

There will be instances where you'll hear the command "Drain it!" in regards to the structure's supply. This is usually done to deny the enemy any supply when you are about to lose a structure, or directly after capturing something that the commander isn't planning to hold for any length of time (leaving the enemy with a weakened keep and no supply to upgrade it, after he takes it back.)

This is a very useful post and something that new WvW players would find helpful. The routes drawn out by Xivor is a watered-down version which makes it less complicated. Dolyaks spawned from the supply camps usually have 2 destinations.

Here's the complete supply routes for the dolyaks:
